This may have been posted before? Nothing we don't know already, but makes the case that Tolkien undid much of the damage that had been done to the conception of elves.

This stands out as an interview soon after LotR was published.  I can not abide the pomposity of British interviewers of the period; the best part is Tolkien's facial expressions.

ouch, the interviewer did look down at Tolkien a tad I felt but, they did back in the days of smart jackets and black and white tv. The ultimate look of studied intelligence was a lit pipe that the interviewer could puff on occasionally, in all the correct moments of course. Good old Tolkien, dont give into the pompous little twit ! Having to justify his own story to someone who probably read a few lines and thought it all ridiculous. He looks an Aldous Huxley type.

Somehow I never put together that in the space of less than a century the Witch King ended Arnor, retook Mordor, captured Minas Ithil, and lured the last king of Gondor to his death. After all that good work one has to wonder why he basically disappeared again for a thousand years.

This guy keeps saying "demographics" when he should use the more precise "population dynamics". He's pointing out some inconsistencies in population growth and decline, though not really complaining about it.

If Amazon have to go making stuff up I wish theyd done the story of the Witch-king- the major outline of his story is in the stuff they have rights for, and what they have to make up- his origins basically and how he ended up with one of the Nine - would give them the room they need for their social commentary- he could have been a Numenoreon who was part of the colonising, enslaving, resource stealing phase of Numenor, or like Khamul he could be an Eastelring and give more insight into the Eastern Lands- places they can invent to a degree as they wish without getitng in the way of anything Tolkien actually wrote. }}
