I don't come often, for my heart is in the place they call the dark planet. Still I think of them as dear kin and drop in to see how every one does.

I'd almost forgotten all the fun we had with "Dark Planet", Anne. We had a bad experience with Tolkien Planet you see, but not really, it was with a gent called Taz who bought our old Hobbit Movie Forum to incorporate into Tolkien Planet. At the time we had no warning and we lost a few forumers due to folk not being able access to the old forum. Some of us had built our friendships to the stage of having personal emails and we made contact. Eldorion then created this forum (don't mind Odo building up his contribution, he always feels he is more important than he actually is - his only contribution was "being" Odo - and I for one like him for that! Strange if I didn't, really. )

So, anyway, there was some angst and poor feeling toward Taz. Mind, this was all sorted out to our reasonable satisfaction, that's why we have the Old Forum Thread here somehwhere, with all the Old Posts. It's here courtesy of Taz returning it when her realized our hurt. Anyhow, the "Dark Planet" business was never much more than a bit of fun in the end. There, no doubt, will be more of it as the mood takes us. But visit Planet Tolkien yourself. You may find it much to your liking.

Btw there is a forum called The Hobbit Forum. It's a site that was made by Taz (I think) - we jut did not know about it until recently. You might try that too. Planet Tolkien folk are very measured and sensible, though not without humour. They are very serious about always remaining Family Friendly and might be more to your taste. The other "Hobbit Movie Forum" is full of folk who don't mind straight talk and a bit of vigour, and the occasional, should I say, "plain" language. Choose your preference, but PLEASE stay here. We're quite nice when you get to know us (with the possible exception of Petty, who is our Darth Vader! )

We tolerate much, but there are limits to acceptable behaviour, even here. We'll soon let you know if you go "too" far. Not that we expect it. We trust folk will walk the precipice but not topple over. Happy posting.

Welcome Anne! I am, like Leelee, one of those who call the Dark Planet home. But I lurk around in here too. And I owe these um relatively decent folks a serious post in one of the threads. I do plan to get around that eventually...

This place becomes more and more intriguing. Thanks for the welcome, Amarie. I have had a quick look at the two other forums Orwell mentions, and I promise I will keep an eye on them, but I have to say there is much still to explore here, and so far I do find it to my taste. I think the word "off beat" applies. This is a very easy going place I think.

AWESOME!!!! I like the Fortress of Lore that Eldo was in! (I'm assuming that's what it was... ) and the bit at the end was beautiful!

You are on that elven ship your Maj!- sadly cause the sun is setting noone can see you!! Sorry. But you are there I assure you. And yes that is the Tower of Lore. Also featured besides Needlehole is the Buckie Brewing Wizards brewery and of course the NotP Forumshire Office. Mirabella and Saradoc are in the street, with Odo peering over his hedge too. (Oh and the music is from the Doctor Who episode Silence in the Library)

Wow! What an amazing video/ad, Petty! I never thought I would see what Forumshire looks like on the other side of reality! I had the biggest grin on my face from the moment I saw the Needlehole sign straight through to the end and even now. Phenomenal job; now I'm going to rewatch and see what I missed the first time.

*squees* All the member cameos are fantastic! And the Fortress of Lore is just perfect, thank you! I love it, I love everything in this video, and I love this community! I'm excited, can you tell?

Thanks guys. It took a bit of time, so long in fact that the sign at the start originally was pop. 41! Sadly its blurrier than it should be after uploading, making it hard to spot some things, like Odo peering over the hedge.
The original frames are a lot sharper:

Lorient avators that appear are: Saradoc, Odo, Mirabella, Baingil, Eldo and Tin (athough you can't actually see her cause its too dark by then-she's on the ship).

I may eventually do one with an expanded Needlehole- I really want to put in Our Lady's School, the Archet Bugle offices, The Duck and Muck (think that was the name of the pub in Needlehole) and more avatars in where possible.

I'd love to see more of your animated Forumshire, Petty! BTW, could you post the original screencap for the sign at the very beginning? I had trouble reading it with the blurriness.
