Yeah, that's my read on it too. Luke is the last Jedi as of the start of the film but hopefully not by the end of Ep VIII/IX.

- Spoiler:
- I liked both TFA and Rogue One so some of my early pessimism was proven wrong, although I don't think either is a great film, but I still kinda think that even if the quality stays on this side of average a new Star Wars movie every year will eventually end up being too much of a good thing.
Re: Star Wars [2]
Not sure why that was in spoilers so I won't respond in kind. But ahem...if there was a frenzy of creative activity filling out the star wars universe with films coming from all directions, that would be okay. My worry is that since everything would be funnelled through Disney, it's not possible for one corporation to keep the freshness and quality going.

I can agree with that. I can't, offhand, think of a franchise that regularly released new installments for 18 straight years without eventually losing its way.

Marvel's cinematic universe has been going for almost a decade (and they have plans for many more films) and many would argue it is just as strong today if not stronger, I'm not personally a huge fan of the Marvel universe, but Star Wars allows the possibility of a much greater variety of stories and worlds assuming Disney aren't afraid to think outside the box.

Re: Star Wars [2]
I didn't know most of the that star wars history. Like most people I'm uncomfortable with Lucas' vision of the Force being primarily biological rather than purely mystical, but repeated exposure to the concept in a historical vein is making it more palatable.

Re: Star Wars [2]
the first trailer for the Last Jedi is here, but good luck watching it. Seems to be swamped.
I'll review it, if it ever loads.

Re: Star Wars [2]
Saw it earlier, watched it again, feeling hyped.
That doesn't necessarily mean the movie will be great but it looks like an entertaining ride at the very least.

Re: Star Wars [2]
Switched networks, finally saw it. Shots of Rey being trained, then a bunch of shit blows up. Luke says something significant at the end. And....that's the trailer.
Intriguing rather than informative.

Well it is a teaser.

Re: Star Wars [2]
Mark Hamill reveals that Vader's line "I am your father" was hidden even from the crew filming it, and he was the only one of the cast to be informed of it before the movie came out. (remember that James Earl Jones dubbed in the voice after filming).

Re: Star Wars [2]
Hmm, maybe I should do that. Probably like the LotR movies, where you are pissed off by parts the first time around, but come to terms with the things that bothered you and can enjoy the rest on further viewings.
