Forum ranks
This is an idea I had a loooooooong time ago but that Ady never acted on. However, now that we've got a fresh start, I thought it'd be worth floating the idea. The idea behind forum ranks is that as you post, you hit certain milestones and the title under your username changes. Mods have a separate title and there can also be custom titles, but by default people follow a set progression.
When I was fiddling around with the controls earlier I set it so that someone with 0 posts is a Newbie, at 5 posts advances to Hobbit, and at 10 posts advances to Elf. This is, however, pretty lame, and I had no intention of keeping it, but I thought I'd ask around and see what people want for ranks. My original idea was for them to reflect the story of The Hobbit (following Bilbo's journey and the people he encounters), but they can be anything.

Noticed I was a newbie earlier and wondered if you'd put in a system! like the idea, although I'm not sure what to use

Re: Forum ranks
The first forum that I used to frequent had ranks like Spam King and other ones I can't remember. If you had 1000 or 2000 posts (can't remember) you got the rank "Wanna-be Immo". Immo was the username of the guy with the highest post count (3/4 K posts or something). We could have a Wanna-be GB rank if you pass 2k posts

Re: Forum ranks
I'm kinda liking that idea Eldo.
As far as ranks in general though, I'm thinking starting people off as Hobbits is kind of an insult to Hobbits. We need something like Newbie, Ranger, Lord, Steward, King/Queen of Rohan, King/Queen of Gondor and Arnor, Lore Master, Wizard, and finally Valar.
Or something like that.

Re: Forum ranks
So some ideas for the progression:
- Bilbo's journey in the Hobbit
- Hierarchy of humans
- Anything else?
I'm thinking that about 10 ranks is good for now. I'll probably set the highest rank (possibly Ringdrotten's suggestion) at 500. If we end up with lots of people getting that far, we can revise it later.

(Ermmm.... I was wondering if someone could rescue my photo --- it's a family heirloom, and I should like to have it back. To you guys it might be just an "avatar" but to me it's an expression of handsome middle-aged-hobbitness --- the very essence! ) -

Re: Forum ranks
I prefer the first set since they're more of a Hobbit-theme, myself. If there are no strong feelings against that shall I set up the new ranks later today?
Re: Forum ranks
My vote goes to the Hobbit themed ranks as well

Re: Forum ranks
Surely any respectable scale would began at 0-Liberal and end at 500-Purist?
After all if you have a scale it should be about more than numbers it should be something to aspire to.

yeah, it kind of needs an update cause I think that most people are above 500 posts, though I love my custom title and it would be fun for newbies to figure out how we got them

Wannabe-longer-beard? Personally I love my wannabe beard rank, tribute to probably the greatest member that this website has ever seen; don't dare change it Eldo!!!! (Also don't change it something like 3000+ posts to qualify because at my current rate of 2.6 posts/day that will take such a long time!)
