Re: "Why Does It Hurt So Much?"
Three pages on this scene and I have nothing to add to the general chorus of disbelief and disgust that this is the sort of writing we got in TH films.

Re: "Why Does It Hurt So Much?"
Well, even Peter Jackson is innocent of that, unless we are indeed considering Orlando Bloom

Re: "Why Does It Hurt So Much?"
Where's Dave? He'd love this!
And those two lines make me twitch with discomfort. Still. I physically can't listen to it/watch it without flailing or fuming. It's beating a dead horse at this point saying where it all went wrong. Number one offender in shit making though would be the production company.
But really, how can you be 500 YEARS OLD AND NEVER HAVE AN INKLING OF WHAT LOVE IS? IS SHE A ROBOT? DOES SHE NOT FEEL SOME KIND OF FAMILIAL LOVE WITH LEGOLAS? I mean we all know Orlando's legoals is emotionally stunted (through no fault but his own acting) but that doesn't mean elves are incapable of understanding love! If you look at Tauriel's motives, everything she does is for love of other living things. She wants to pursue the spiders to help protect "other lands." She and Leggy obviously have a close relationship. You'd think she'd love her king in a devotional sense. Elves are far more emotional than people (unless your name is Turin) they can fade from depression so to have an elf, no matter how rustic, be so oblivious to emotion is just wrong. Not really Tolkien at all.
All in all: a terribly translated character from bits and pieces of Tolkien cannon.

Would have been better if she'd died in bits n pieces, then we wouldnt have to hear that pathetic whimpering over a person she's known less time than I have my verruca ! I agree with Tin, How can you go centuries without feeling a "twing" now & again eh ? God, I have the odd crush myself now & again & Im only a blip compared to her age ! stupid girl !

And yeah this scene was...awful...
I can't help but wonder what Tauriel would have seemed like had they not added the love triangle nonsense...

I honestly hadn't even thought through the implications of that line this much, but this is a pretty good point. It does sound more like something a 13 year old would say. {{{And while Elves do age slower than humans, according to "Laws and Customs Among the Eldar" they typically reach physical maturity by 50 years, though sometimes as late as 100.}}}
Re: "Why Does It Hurt So Much?"
Well she was 500 (at least) according to the movie. Stripping away her ability to love until the point she meets Kili makes her "feminine energy" even more demeaning. She's basically a fighting robot until she meets a cute dwarf. Logically, it makes no real sense. Sure she lived a sheltered life but she never loved anything?

Re: "Why Does It Hurt So Much?"
felt this analysis thing fitted this thread the best it was really good and entertaining and reminded me why the hobbit movies hurt so much.
part one
part two
edit: I am actually starting to think that a disney/pixar animated version of the hobbit would've been a lot more fitting....
