Space and The wonders/mysteries of The Universe

Hope everyone who could got to see these...







My first time seeing them and hoping to get an even better show tomorrow.

{{ I didn't get any pictures but was a very colourful night at work! Not my first time, we tend to see them at least few times a year here, but it was one of the better shows.}}

We had completely overcast skies.

We were told there was a chance of seeing it last night. Went out at 10:30 and 12:30 when the clouds were broken rather than completely overcast, but saw nothing.

I saw feck all. I only found out about it from all the great pics put up on Facebook. There was a chance, they said, of seeing the lights the next night so, armed with sour cream and chive crisps, bottles of fizzy blackberry I sat up glued to the bedroom window till my eyes were sore, Still didnt see it

err...ok..wow!

This is all pretty general except for starting at 8 minutes. Much as I hope their claims are correct I suspend belief until I see the evidence in detail. The distance between stars is just too damn big.

I haven't watched it yet... should I bother?

And Halfy... the distance is too great based on our current understand of physics. Doesn't mean there isn't a way!

Yes, but our current understanding is good enough that you don't just chuck it away based on people seeing stuff.  Magicians make people see stuff all the time that violates our current understanding of physics.

For example the videos that showed hyper sonic speeds and accelerations of multiple Gs have already been explained quite simply by incorrect assumptions of altitude plus parallax.  Multiple "experts" missed this simple explanation, so I don't put a lot of faith in people whose imagination extends to aliens but can't fathom more mundane things like geometry. Same goes for camera artifacts.

Stay skeptical until you have no other choice.

One of those dudes is from NASA? I hope he will have a handle on the basics.

Which one was from NASA? I didn't see that. But even if one was, be very skeptical if they were "head" of NASA. The last few decades have had a trend of appointing people outside an agency to head it, much like bringing in CEOs from outside a company. It's a stupid trend, and I have to say as an aside that Trump takes this to an extreme, appointing people with the hopes they will destroy an agency.

I don't agree our current understanding is good enough. There are still plenty of things in physics that are not understood, things we can see the effects of but not the cause and things we just have no idea about.

There are also things that we know about that we may learn how to manipulate in the future that current technology doesn't allow for.

All of that is true. But you don't abandon a current knowledge explanation until you must. If you look at the videos I posted above you'll see that perhaps all the UFO videos that "experts can't explain" actually CAN be explained if you get the RIGHT experts. And they don't even break a sweat doing it, it's purely routine.

I want there to be aliens as much as anyone. But I'm not seeing the evidence, and it's easier to assume that the evidence that is being withheld is due to security regarding our own high technology rather than alien.

I totally haven't watched the videos yet, comments were purely about the getting somewhere that is a long distance away.

I'll get on to those and see what they say!

Well, first time I have had my telescope out for a while and that is because I got to see:

Venus shining brightly and close up in a nice gibbous phase but with the darker side of the planet still visible.

Saturn up and to the left of it with rings 90 degrees on and looking like a thin sliver in the viewfinder.

Jupiter and a nice alignment of the galileon moons. Also a nice clear sky so could also see a couple of the major cloud bands.

Mars all nice and red and in full view. Couldn't make out any ice caps today though and probably as was low in the sky and a bit more interference from Earth's atmosphere.

The moon was also trying to impress but was quite a boring target with everything else going on!!!

{{ Dont suppose you grabbed any snaps Lance? Sky last week here has been clear as a bell, but sadly no telescope this end to take advantage of it. }}

No pictures. Was purely having a look and my setup isn't really for planetary photography which i might try and do something about this year.

{{ Cheers Lance thats the one I had- readded to my bookmarks. I'm afraid I kind of AI your work as it were, in that its one of a collection of photos and stuff I browse and use for reference material should I need it for drawings and stuff. }}
