I think I voted for Moria on that one. Rivendell was probably my number 2.
Azriel - yep, all good. Heading to the last of my top three things to see next... Iguazu Falls. Less than 3 weeks before back home.

I'm actually with you on that one. That song made so little of an impression on me, I didn't even remember it. To the degree I wonder if people relate to it more for the moment than the song itself.
That's just my personal opinion though, I perfectly understand people feeling differently.
To be honest I didn't like The Last Goodbye much either.

Re: 2014 Forumshire Film Awards!
No great surprises, glad Ken Stott won.
I agree about The Shire-it looked nice, and green enough I suppose, but in a relatively empty country like New Zeland how hard was it to find a few hills and a pond? I'm not going to go into the grass debate, but I do think Moria and Rivendell were both much more impressive in terms of design.
I actually kinda like the Bolg/Legolas fight...it terms of sheer stupidity it was impressive...

Re: 2014 Forumshire Film Awards!
I liked Helms Deep- there is good description of its layout in the book, and for the most part the film replicates it pretty damn well with the exception of the stupid steep slope Gandalf and co somehow ride down without turning into a big ball of mangled horse and people.
And the lack of the Deeping Wall, but apart from that I thought it was an impressive physical set and one of the best examples of using cgi well to compliment the physical set rather than replace it.
Of course my views on what the script has happen there is another matter

Re: 2014 Forumshire Film Awards!
I agree that Rivendell was more impressive imaginatively, it was more beautiful, but I suppose the Shire is maybe more iconic and emotionally satisfying? dunno really. I voted for Minas Tirith. But they are all beautiful in different ways. The Shire is more pastoral idyll, Rivendell is magical, Lothlorien is ethereal, and Minas Tirith is majestic and epic.

I always found that extremely silly (yes, even as a 11 year old I was there questioning Jackson's logic at times...)
At least in the EE version, Jackson has the excuse of the Huorns bloking the valley...

Only that you dont have to hunt them- which is why they never caught on here- no fun in a food that just sits there, you cant chase it all over the heather clad hills in your kilt whilst painted blue, screaming like a banshee and leaping after them with a net in one hand and a ruddy big club in the other. Now thats food (well once its deep fried anyway)

I think you have to admire these wild inhabitants of the field. The way they silently sit there, braced against the vicious onslaught of spade & fork. Either they are brave beyond reason or, naively dumb

Having seen Dave's photos of mutant Turnips etc, I don't have much sympathy
Fair point though, it's almost as if they evolved to be eaten...

Some did- you eat it the seed passes right through you and you deposit it somewhere else where a new plant can grow.
Granted passing through the bowels of another creature isnt my idea of sex, but each to their own! (And another good reaosn not to eat vegetables- Im not having sex with a plant Vegetarians are therefore morally dubious )

Argh well, those are the evacuees. Escaped in time & braved it to new lands far afield. They are the ones that learnt to adapt, ( unless Dave had some 'funny' friends over ? ) & are now setting up a colony of their own.

Re: 2014 Forumshire Film Awards!
was there really any other choice than Ken Stott as far as the award goes? wasn't a surprise to me.... he took all the crappy dialogue Jackson gave him and some how made it feel some what Tolkien-esque

yep he was the highlight of the films. He looked like a Dwarf and sounded like he meant it. Unlike everyone else, who thought they were in Twilight or The Tudors or whatever its a costume drama with crap dialogue but great pay so go with the flow kinda thing.

I'll say nothing, as I think her grace speaks from both the moral and regal high ground in this case.
